1981  Reagan fires air traffic controllers and orders decertification of the union, Professional Air traffic Controllers Association.

1978  Council 94, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) vote to strike.  A settlement is reached before employees walk out.

March 22, 1982 Brown & Sharpe strikers gassed by the North Kingstown police.  The officer in charge was later referred to by the strikers as “Sgt. Pepper.” (right)
